Local Scouts Learn About the Environment
Water conservation, invasive plants, and knowing the difference between white and black mangroves were just some of the things that local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts learned about on Saturday April 28th at Joan M. Durante Community Park on Longboat Key. The trip was provided by Take A Child Outdoors and Around the Bend Nature Tours and was sponsored by John Evans of SunTrust Mortgage in Bradenton. Seventeen local scouts enjoyed a 2 ½ hour nature tour of the park lead by guides from Around the Bend and then a cookout lunch provided by Take A Child Outdoors.
After the scouts enjoyed a day at the park, they visited the Aquarian Quest ship, the Galatea which is undergoing restoration in Cortez Village. They were able to board the wooden ship and watch a short video about the programs Aquarian Quest will offer on board the vessel once the restoration is complete. Four educational hands-on learning stations will be available during the three hour sail.
